VITICULTURE
F4V6 (Marlborough’s dominate clone) was grafted onto 20 year old Chardonnay vines in 2011.
WINE MAKING
A gentle crushing provided 100% free-run juice. There was a slow, cool fermentation to retain natural aromatics and primary fruit flavours.
TASTING NOTES
Plenty of varietal character on the nose; citrus and passionfruit. The wine is delightfully refreshing, with clean well balanced flavours of passionfruit and tropical fruits. It’s pristine and tightly wound together with lemon zest nuances and a persistent line of racy acidity.
Vintage 2019
“Pristine and varietally expressive, the wine shows grapefruit, Granny Smith apple, nectarine and lemon peel aromas on the nose, leading to a succulent palate that is flavoursome and lingering. It’s bright and lively with a lengthy crisp finish. At its best: now to 2024” Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
“Showing its cool climate heritage.. starbright in colour.. Complex flavours of citrus, gooseberry, and tropical fruit, balanced by grapefruit style acid fill the mouth. This leads to a tight clean finish and good length..” Stephen Read, Wine Matrix
Vintage 2017
“Cool fermentation of free-run juice captures the considerable amount of tropical fruit that has no sweaty characters, just good acidity, the throne on which sauvignon blanc sits.” Halliday Wine Companion 2020
“It is immediately appealing on the nose showing Gala apple, nectarine, rock melon and dried herb notes, followed by a fruit-expressive palate that is elegantly weighted and finely textured. The wine offers lovely fruit purity together with vibrant acidity, making it highly enjoyable.” Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Vintage 2016
“Fine, focused and linear, this elegantly expressed sauvignon shows lemon, white stone fruit, dill and basil aromas on the nose, leading to a vibrant palate that is bright and finely textured. The wine delivers pristine fruit flavours and crisp acidity, finishing persistent and mouth-watering.” Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Vintage 2015
“This is a cool climate Sauvignon Blanc with real zing! The passionfruit comes through on the nose and palate making this a zesty little number. The tropical fruit characters add to the overall cleanness and freshness of this wine. Tumbarumba has developed a great regional style for this variety.” Ben Malouf, The Daily Telegraph
